The Bad Dog Crouch

This is Porter's Orbee. We were extremely skeptical about its toughness when it came out of the package because it has a lovely textured, flexy surface, but Porter's had it for several weeks now and it is STILL IN ONE PIECE. Those of you who also own dogs that chew like industrial wood-chippers will understand our excitement over a dog toy that doesn't immediately make us regret not flushing that money right down the commode.

RIP, Kitty Cuz
I still intend to do a bigger post about Porter's toys (or lack thereof). Great lab toys are hard to come by. Porter is pretty much limited to "hard" toys made out of bone, nylon (nylabone), or some type of really hard rubber.
I was pretty proud of the fact that he still had some semi-interesting toys that he hadn't decimated, but then I happened upon this tragic scene tonight:

BUNNY!
Not since Mr. Chippy has Porter been able to have a soft toy. He usually immediately finds their seams and then spends the next 15 minutes dancing in the stuffing he evenly distributes all over the house. But, Orvis swears that this bunny is supposed to hold up, so we shall see. B gave it 30 minutes and lost $10 to me last night, as the Bun is still intact, despite Porter's enthusiastic efforts:
Do you see my bunny?

My bunny, he tries to blend in with zee rug, but I have found heem.

Gahhhhmm gahhhmm gahhhm.

It's Bad Cuz...
Porter LOVES this toy. It squeaks and bounces and provides maximum gahm-ability... what more could a lab pup wish for? The squeak hole is on the back. Porter particularly loves to position it in his mouth so that all the squeak sound goes into his mouth, down his throat, and into his brain.

Gahm and the Cat Pee Bone
When Porter gets very into a bone or a toy, he will just sit there and chew repeatedly and with great concentration. He makes the sound "gahm, gahm, gahm, gahm," or at least, I imagine that he does. Here he is gahming his new favorite bone. (Note the half-lowered eyelids denoting intense pleasure and self-satisfaction.)

He gahmed it quite a bit at lunch.

I kept thinking I smelled a terrible odor in my couch cushions, at my desk chair, and in my bedroom. I began to suspect that the neighborhood cat had sneaked in and peed all over everything.

Then I thought about how the common thread here was Porter. All the rooms he was in were stinky. I smelled him thoroughly. Then, I thought of the bone.

Yes, Porter's DentaBone smells strongly of CAT URINE. I guess that explains why he likes it so much.

Focus
Porter loves his nasty rawhide/elephant skin/mooshed up/hairy flap of delectableness. This used to be one of those rolled-up rawhides until I got the bright idea to soak it in water. Porter unrolled it like a fruit rollup and has proceeded to wallow with it for several days.

One of his favorite moves is to flop it on one of our legs during dinner, slimy and nasty. He is beside himself with pride.

On an unrelated note, he also takes riding in the car VERY seriously. Aren't his ears an interesting shape?
